CNB introduces instant incoming payments for state institutions
As of 18 November 2025, the CNB launched a system of instant incoming payments for state institutions, which represents a positive change in the area of financial transactions between citizens, companies and other entities and the state. Taxes, insurance premiums and other financial obligations to the state can now be sent to the trade-in account of state institutions in a matter of seconds, even during weekends and holidays. This change is another major step in the digitalization of state administration and reflects the ever-growing popularity of instant payments among the public.
How does the new system work?
Recipients of instant payments now include, for example, tax offices, social security administrations and health insurance companies. Instant payments are required to be sent by the taxpayer’s bank, and 15 banks in the Czech Republic already offer this service. For citizens and companies, the method of payment practically does not change – account numbers and variable symbols remain the same. The only change is the need to select the “instant payment” option in internet or mobile banking when entering a payment.
Practical benefits for state administration and citizens
Instant payments benefit both parties. State institutions will benefit in particular from the quick crediting of the payment, which they will be able to dispose of immediately. For taxpayers, the new system means a reduction in the risk of late payment of taxes or fees and related sanctions. A significant benefit for taxpayers is also manifested in the submission of applications and other acts that are subject to an administrative fee. In these cases, the provision of government services can be accelerated in a matter of days, as the relevant institutions can immediately verify the payment and continue processing the application without delay.
The system of accepting instant payments thus represents another important step in the effort to streamline state administration services, which builds on the already functioning projects Citizen Portal or Data Boxes and at the same time contributes to the modernization of financial services in the Czech Republic.
