On 31 October 2024, the EU customs tariff for 2025 was published (effective from 1 January 2025). The updated tariff introduces new customs codes for selected goods or changes the scope of existing codes. Although these are not fundamental changes, it is advisable to review the tariff classification of your goods to ensure that the changes do not affect your products.
What are the main changes and how should you prepare for them?
As you may know, customs tariff codes are used not only in customs procedures but also in Intrastat reporting or other reports, such as the CBAM report. Correctly determining the tariff code can directly impact the identification of whether your company will be subject to obligations under the Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). For these reasons, we recommend reviewing your tariff classifications to determine whether the changes to the customs tariff are relevant to your business and also in relation to other obligations tied to specific customs codes.
Key changes in the 2025 tariff include areas such as biofuels, wood waste, selected wood products, as well as steel transformer sheets and stator and rotor cores.
Customs tariff changes may also result in certain binding information or rulings on tariff classification losing validity as of 1 January 2025.
Additionally, if you hold any customs authorisation where a customs tariff code is specified, you should verify whether it is necessary to update the authorisation to reflect the new tariff codes.
