The Modernisation Fund once again offers an opportunity for entities in the Czech Republic to modernise their energy and heating systems, increase efficiency and contribute to reducing emissions. The pertinent calls include HEAT No. 1/2024 and ENERG ETS No. 1/2024. The calls are designed to support projects that have concrete environmental and economic benefits. Until November 2024, applicants have to submit their projects, which must be implemented within the prescribed deadlines and meet all the conditions set out. An overview of these conditions is provided in the article.
HEAT Call No. 1/2024
The HEAT call focuses on the modernisation and reconstruction of the heating sector to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is intended for applicants operating heat energy supply systems (HES).
Who can apply for a subsidy:
- Enterprises of all sizes from all over the Czech Republic, including Prague
Eligible activities
Modernisation of heat sources involving a change of fuel base (with the transition from coal and coal derivatives) to:
- biomass, biogas/methane by using and without using CHP (combined heat and power production)
- innovative heating technologies using RES (renewable energy sources) by using and without using CHP (heat pumps and geothermal energy)
- natural gas by using CHP
- electricity from RES
- waste heat energy by using and without using CHP
- solid alternative fuels by using CHP.
Minimum energy and CO2 saving requirements:
- Reduction of primary energy consumption from non-renewable sources: at least 15% compared to the pre-project situation and, at the same time
- Reduction of total primary energy and, at the same time
- Reduction of CO2 emissions by at least 20% compared to the pre-project
Level of support:
- 30-65 % of the total eligible project expenditure.
Dates and deadlines:
- Opening date for the acceptance of applications: 15 July 2024
- Closure date: 29 November 2024
- Projects must be implemented within 5 years of the decision.
ENERG ETS Call No. 1/2024
The ENERG ETS call is designed to support energy projects focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Who can apply for a subsidy:
- Enterprises of all sizes operating in the EU ETS from all over the Czech Republic, including Prague.
Eligible activities:
- Upgrading (reconstruction or replacement) of the energy source
- Modernisation (reconstruction or replacement) or reconfiguration of production or processing facilities.
Minimum energy and CO2 saving requirements:
- Reduction of primary energy consumption: by at least 20% compared to the situation before the project was implemented, or
- Reduction of CO2 emissions by at least 40% compared to the pre-project
Level of support:
- Large enterprises: up to 40% of eligible expenditure
- Medium-sized enterprises: up to 50% of eligible expenditure
- Small enterprises: up to 60% of eligible expenditure
- Increase in aid intensity: if higher savings are achieved (reduction of CO2 by at least 55% or primary energy consumption by at least 25%), the support may be increased by 15 percentage points.
Dates and deadlines:
- Opening date for the acceptance of applications: 15 July 2024
- Closing date for the acceptance of applications: 15 November 2024
