Announcement of first calls in the Modernisation Fund

Given the Green Deal strategy aiming at a CO2 neutral Europe, the European Union as well as the Czech Republic try to support investments related to protection of the environment and climate, low-emission energy and other areas. Completely new grant sources have been created for this purpose, such as the Modernisation Fund, Just Transition Fund, Recovery and Resilience Facility or new operational programmes for the next programme period 2021–2027. The first programme currently accepting preliminary applications is the Modernisation Fund.

The fund’s allocation amounts to approximately CZK 150 billion, which will be distributed among businesses and the public sector. At present, preliminary applications can be submitted in the three programmes listed below. However, projects to be financed will not be selected as part of these preliminary calls; selection will be part of subsequent actual calls to submit applications for aid, but this is an obligatory step for applicants planning to draw support from the fund. The actual calls are planned to be launched in the second or third quarter of 2021.

The Modernisation of Heat Supply Systems programme (HEAT)

This programme supports projects focused on changing the fuel base of resources that are primarily intended to supply heat, on building new heat distribution systems or their reconstruction, including installation for heat accumulation. The change of fuel base and replacement of the heat source primarily concerns the change to renewable energy sources, energy recovery from waste, natural gas, electricity, or waste heat. In addition, the programme supports the production or expansion of combined power and heat generation.

Applicants in this call may be natural persons or legal entities based on a licence to generate heat and/or power and a licence to distribute heat provided by the Energy Regulatory Office.

New project plans will be accepted until 1 February 2021.

The New Renewable Energy Sources programme (RES+)

The programme supports projects focused on the installation of new non-fuel sources of renewable energy and elements of active energy management, such as photovoltaic power plants or geothermal energy sources.

Applicants in this call may be natural persons or legal entities based on a business licence in the power industries.

New project plans will be accepted until 1 February 2021.

The Energy Efficiency Improvement and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction in Industry in EU ETS (ENERG ETS)

The programme supports projects focused on savings measures in the area of energy consumption and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in production and technological processes. The activities primarily include modernisation of energy generation and distribution installations, modernisation of production or processing installations, implementation of hydrogen applications and systems using waste heat, introduction of innovative elements in efficient energy management and tools for the optimisation of operation based on monitoring and evaluation of energy consumption.

Applicants in this call may be natural persons or legal entities operating EU ETS installations in the Czech Republic.

New project plans will be accepted until 1 February 2021.
