Deloitte KidsXO Club: Youtuber Kovy, robots and virtual reality
Youtuber Karel Kovář, more famously known as Kovy, and more than thirty children, that’s what the second Deloitte KidsXO Club was like. At Prague’s modern Czech institute of information, robotics and cybernetics kids shared their stories and videos, explored virtual reality and robotics, and together with Kovy were in a sitting during which they talked about You Tube and preparation of videos. Finally there were awards for the best submissions.
“Today you will see not only Kovy, but also a bunch of robots, including those that will be useful in the future, that will fold your laundry for you, so when your parents ask you to clean your room you will know who to call,” stated Diana Rádl Rogerová, Deloitte’s CEO, in her opening speech, and she continued: “I hope you can learn a lot of new things, including the answer to the question of how many robots are in the world. So – Kovy, an answer is expected,” which was Diana’s little reminder as she smiled and passed the word to Kovy.
He began with an apology for coming late “I drove from Komárkova street, which is at the other end of Prage, I surely hope that somebody will invent a robotic Kovy, who will know where to drive, or that we will have cars where the calendar will straight up synchronise with the car, so that the car will automatically get to the right destination, since apparently I’m no longer able to even remember the right address.”

But now on a more serious note: The future probably fascinates all of us, robotics and artificial intelligence are themes that are no longer just talked about, but are now increasingly entering our lives. But in what direction will all this be heading? Nobody knows with certainty…
“I for instance make videos on YouTube, which at the moment is a big and modern platform, so I often get questions regarding what I think the world will be like in three to five years’ time…but I will turn the table around, what do you think?” asked Kovy as he pointed to a lady seated in the second row. But she was taking her sweet time, at which point Kovy added: “And that is the exactly my case… I don’t know what will happen in a few years. These are philosophical questions, vague discussions, we cannot say for certain how something will turn out. So how many robots are there in the world? I don’t know, I really don’t,“ was Kovy’s response to Diana Rádl Rogerová’s question.
Workshop with Kovy, or in other words what according to the participants of the KidsXO Club is most important about YouTube?
- A good idea
- Entertain – create funny videos
- Captivate
- Distinguish oneself from the others
- Do things differently
- Cooperate with the other youtubers and share each other’s videos
“Most youtubers are introverts, YouTube has changed their life and personality. When I was starting out I struggled a lot with being shy. Self-reflection is always important, and you also need to look at those who are most successful and learn from them,“ advises Kovy.
After the introductory program, the children were divided into groups and took turns at Kovy’s workshop, and explored the modern centre of the Czech institute of information, robotics, and cybernetics as well as the actual robots. They could try out programming our very own robot dBot, who showed them a dance and answered their questions. In conclusion, awards were given out for the best projects, however, deciding between videos and pictures was no easy task, among the winners were two eight year old animator brothers and a really gifted painter that portrayed robotics from the future. She is crying because she is the only one of her kind in the world with feelings and so she feels lonely among the other robots… The author of the best photograph was also awarded for a picture that was created in a photobox during the event..

We wish the kids a nice summer and look forward to the next Deloitte KidsXO Club…
