Companies preparing investments in energy savings, emission reduction or biomethane production can take advantage of other expected subsidy opportunities. In addition to the upcoming ENERG ETS call, which will focus on the decarbonisation of industrial companies involved in the EU ETS system, calls for support for biomethane production have also been newly included in the OP TAC schedule.
The final terms of the individual calls will be known only after the publication of the relevant call and related documentation. However, companies should not wait to prepare project plans. A timely assessment of the technical solution, the eligibility of the project and its expected energy or emission benefits can significantly facilitate the subsequent preparation of the application.
ENERG ETS: billion-dollar support for the decarbonisation of industry
The upcoming ENERG ETS call will be aimed at industrial companies operating facilities participating in the EU ETS system. Its aim will be to support significant investments in increasing energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and modernising industrial technologies.
Applications are expected to be received in autumn 2026. The projects will be able to be implemented throughout the Czech Republic, including Prague. The allocation is expected to exceed CZK 20 billion. A level of support of 60% for small enterprises, 50% for medium-sized enterprises and 40% for large enterprises is preliminarily envisaged.
The support will be available in particular for:
- modernization of production and processing facilities,
- modernisation of energy sources and energy distribution,
- energy-saving measures in production processes,
- technologies contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions,
- related construction and infrastructure investments.
A key aspect of the project will be a demonstrable energy or emission benefit. The previous call worked with a requirement to reduce total energy consumption by at least 20% or reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40%. However, the specific values and the method of proving them for the upcoming call will be determined only by its final documentation.
New support for biomethane production
Another opportunity will be offered by the Renewable Energy Sources – Biomethane Production – Call II, which has been newly added to the OP TAC schedule for 2026. Two separate calls will be announced, one for less developed regions and the other for transition regions. The total planned allocation of both calls is one billion CZK.
Their announcement is planned for October 26, 2026, the receipt of applications should start on November 9, 2026 and continue until November 9, 2027. These will be ongoing calls with a one-round evaluation model.
Support for less developed and transition regions
Projects will be divided according to the place of implementation:
- an allocation of CZK 400 million has been prepared for less developed regions,
- an allocation of CZK 600 million is planned for transition regions.
Small, medium-sized and large enterprises will be able to apply for support. The specific regional classification of the project will have to be assessed according to the place of its implementation and the documentation of the relevant call.
What will the support be used for?
The calls will focus on technologies enabling the processing of biogas into biomethane and its subsequent use. The following are to be supported:
- technology for the treatment of biogas into biomethane and its injection into the distribution network,
- technologies for processing biogas into biomethane together with gas filling technologies,
- bio-CNG filling equipment including filling station and related technologies,
- bio-CNG filling station, including a dispenser and related technologies.
The calls will thus be relevant for companies preparing investments in biogas treatment and subsequent supply of biomethane to the distribution network or its use in the form of bio-CNG.
It is advisable to start preparing projects now
Although the ENERG ETS and support for biomethane production are focused on different types of investments, in both cases high-quality technical and economic preparation of the project will be important.
For projects submitted to the ENERG ETS, the assessment of energy savings, emission reduction, investment costs and readiness for implementation will be crucial. For projects for the production of biomethane, it will be appropriate to determine the location of implementation and the corresponding regional challenge in time, to define the technical solution and the method of further use of the biomethane produced, and to prepare the preliminary scope of the investment and its budget.
The current schedule of the OP TAC for biomethane calls does not yet specify the level of support, the minimum or maximum amount of the subsidy or a detailed list of eligible expenditures. These parameters will be known only after the publication of the complete documentation. At the same time, the schedule points out that the information provided is indicative and may be changed or supplemented.
