The ENERG ETS grant call: Modernisation of sources – small-scale projects

The aim of the ENERG ETS call, financed by the so-called Modernisation Fund, is reducing final energy consumption or reducing CO2 emissions in the generation or processing process through the modernisation (reconstruction or replacement) of facilities for the generation and distribution of energy for own consumption, leading to an increase in the efficiency thereof, or through changes of the fossil fuel base or type of energy. Another supported activity is a change in the configuration of generation or processing facilities.

Of the total allocation of the ENERG ETS call, which is set at EUR 5 billion, at least 30% of the funds are allocated for regions affected by the downturn in coal mining (the Moravian-Silesian, Ústí nad Labem and Karlovy Vary regions) with the place of implementation of the project being decisive, not the applicant’s registered office. The allocation of the call may be increased or adjusted in the course of its announcement in relation to the availability of funds from the Modernisation Fund, which is financed from the sale of emission allowances.

The aid intensity ranges from 30 to 80 % of the eligible costs of the project. The specific amount of the subsidy depends on the type of the applicant, the size of the enterprise, and the region in which the project will be implemented. Eligible applicants in this call are only entities operating facilities within the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS) in the Czech Republic. Receipt of aid applications will be possible from 29 November 2022 from 12:00 a.m. The end of the receipt of applications is planned for 30 June 2023 by 12:00 a.m.

The implementation of projects supported by the ENERG ETS call must be completed no later than 5 years after the grant decision was issued; all expenses after this date will not be eligible. The call is announced as a one-round non-competitive call, which means that the decisive factor will not be time, but the quality and formal and technical readiness of the application.
