On 2 March 2022, the amendments to IAS 1 Presentation of Financial Statements and IFRS Practice Statement 2 Making Materiality Judgements titled Disclosure of Accounting Policies were endorsed by the European Commission for use in the European Union. The EU effective date is the same as the IASB’s effective date (annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2023).
Amendments to IAS 1 were issued in February 2021. The amendments change the requirements in IAS 1 with regard to the disclosure of accounting policies. Applying the amendments, an entity discloses its material accounting policies, instead of its significant accounting policies.
Further amendments to IAS 1 are made to explain how an entity can identify a material accounting policy. Examples of when an accounting policy is likely to be material are added.
To support the amendments, the Board has also developed guidance and examples to explain and demonstrate the application of the ‘four-step materiality process’ described in IFRS Practice Statement 2.
We brought more information about these amendments to IAS 1 in our last year’s article.
