At the end of October, a call from the Innovation Fund to support so-called large projects (exceeding EUR 7.5 million) was opened. The support will involve projects focusing on highly innovative technologies, processes or products with the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The expected benefit brought by the supported projects includes the contribution to the transition to a climate-neutral economy by 2050 and to the goal of reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030 according to the European Green Deal. The allocation of this call amounts to EUR 1.5 billion, which will be divided into projects implemented in the territory of the EU member states, Norway or Iceland.
Supported activities include, for example, activities that support innovation in low-carbon technologies and processes, including environmentally safe carbon absorption and use, or activities that support the construction and operation of innovative renewable energy technologies and energy storage. The assessed criteria include, for example, the potential to prevent greenhouse gas emissions, project readiness or the degree of innovation.
