TA CR to announce public competition for the TREND – Technology Leaders Programme

On Wednesday, 5 April 2023, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) will announce the tenth public competition to support industrial research and experimental development under the TREND programme, sub-programme 1 – Technology Leaders. The aim of the programme is to support the in-house research and development (R&D) activities of companies with an emphasis on the application and export potential of the results.

The programme is open to companies that already have experience in carrying out R&D by their own means or companies that have experience in purchasing R&D services from research organisations but have not yet developed their own R&D activities.

A prerequisite for a successful project is the achievement of a certain type of result, e.g. a prototype, a working sample, software, an industrial or utility model, etc.

One of the advantages of this programme compared to other support instruments (e.g. OP TAC application) is the system of reimbursement of subsidies by advance payments in advance, the so-called ex-ante financing.

What can be supported:

The main purpose of the programme is to increase the international competitiveness of companies and also to strengthen cooperation with research organisations. The project should thus, for example, expand the market abroad, penetrate new markets or advance global value chains. Support will be given to research and development projects aimed at putting results into practice, in particular into industrial production and product offerings on the market, projects developing new technologies and materials, projects increasing the level of automation, robotics and the use of digital technologies.

What expenditure can be supported:

  • Staff costs (including stipends)
  • Subcontracting costs
  • Other direct costs
  • Indirect costs (20% of the sum of reported personnel and direct costs)

Who may apply for the subsidy:

  • All enterprises, regardless of size (i.e. including large enterprises) and regardless of the location of the project (i.e. including Prague) can apply.
  • The enterprise must always be the main applicant; other participants in the consortium may be either another enterprise or a research organisation.

Subsidy amount: The maximum subsidy amount per project is CZK 25 million.

Subsidy rate: The maximum Subsidy rate per project is up to 70% of the total eligible costs.

Receipt of applications: From 6 April 2023 to 24 May 2023

The actual implementation of the project must commence between January and March 2024. The maximum duration of the project is set at 30 months; the project must be completed by 30 June 2026.
